Title: Graphing Practice: The Relation of Atomic Number and Atomic Mass

Purpose:

  • to practice graphing
  • to determine the relation of atomic number and atomic mass

Materials:

  • periodic chart
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • graph paper

Procedure:

  1. Graph atomic number (x) vs atomic mass (y) for elements 1~85
  2. Draw a line of best fit
  3. Determine the slope of the line
  4. Determine the percent error (get actual value from Mrs. Nuņo)

Results: This will be your graph

Analysis & Discussion:

  • Summarize what you did
  • Describe the pattern
  • Discuss what the slope means

Conclusion:

  • a one sentence testable statement
  • relate the atomic number to the atomic mass

Reflection:

  • personal comment
